Boringdon Primary School Design and Technology Statement At Boringdon Primary School it is our aim to prepare pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Design and Technology encourages pupils to become curious and creative problem solvers. Our aim is to provide all children with a stimulating and enjoyable experience of Design and Technology and to develop children’s imaginative and critical thinking and create potential innovators. They will develop a greater awareness and understanding of how everyday products are designed and made, working as individuals or collaboratively as part of a team to talk about how things work, drawing models and sharing their ideas. Intent: Design and Technology provides our children with an opportunity to tackle problems of a practical nature. The cross-curricular nature of Design and Technology offers children the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in a broad range of subjects including Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Computing and Art. They must consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values and respond to them by making products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. They combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices. As they do so, they reflect on and evaluate present and past design and technology, developing a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. Design and Technology is taught following the Kapow scheme using a variety of creative and practical activities to develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills. They will have the opportunities to learn to:
